Lillian Pingel's Obituary
Lillian Alice Pingel, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, age 92, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, the 21st of April 2021, at her daughter and son-in-law’s residence in Mooresville, North Carolina.
She was born on October 11, 1928, in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, and was the youngest daughter of the late William J. Burke and Margaret Elizabeth Flaherty. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Pingel, and her eldest son, Robert A. Hook, Jr., and her older siblings, Margaret, John, Eleanor, Florence, and Edward.
Lillian was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman that loved her family greatly. She proudly displayed many family pictures around her home. With both her parents immigrating to the United States from Ireland, her Irish roots were extremely important to her identity. It was a topic that she was happy to talk about. Her husband, Richard, and his close friend, Bill Owens and wife June, shared ownership of a boat (the Wanderlust) that they all spent many family trips sailing to Catalina Island, California. This created many adventuresome memories for her children that were often told.
Lillian drove a special needs school bus for many years that she found very fulfilling by the interactions and friendships created with those children.
Lillian is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, James Pingel (Judy) of Thousand Oaks, California, Vincent Pingel (Jenette) of Overland Park, Kansas; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Deborah Wickes (David) of Stouffville, Ontario, Canada, Barbara Hawks (Rob) of Mooresville, North Carolina; eleven grandchildren, Adrianna Stephenson (Charlie) of Richardson, Texas, Jennifer Wickes of Saint Charles, Illinois, Daniel Wickes (Sarah) of Reno, Nevada, Tim Wickes (Austin) of Denver, Colorado, Cayla Pingel of Marina del Rey, California, Melanie Pingel of Camarillo, California, Abigail Pingel of Dallas, Texas, Ally Connor (Chris) of Overland Park, Kansas, Krystina Soucie (Jordan) of Overland Park, Kansas, Kyle Hawks (Macie), CPT US Army, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Hannah Hawks of Mooresville, North Carolina and eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Ranson Ridge Assisted Living & Memory Care who provided invaluable care to Lillian for many years.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, the 24th of April, 2021, at St. Therese Catholic Church. Visitation is from 10 to 11 am before the service. The interment will be held on Monday, May 17, 1:00 PM, at Salisbury National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
