Linda Hylton's Obituary
Linda Eloise Hylton, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and adoring grandmother left this earth on September 22, 2021, to join her mother in heaven with her husband of 53 years sitting by her side.
Born and raised in Charlotte, Linda graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1967. Most of her working career was spent at Derita Day Care, where she had the pleasure of taking care of children. Linda was a lifetime and active member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, including but not limited to, singing in the choir, serving with the United Methodist Women, being a Youth Counselor, and coordinating the serving food to family during their time of their grief. She loved Duke sports, the beach, cooking and baking for her friends and family,and most of all, spending time with her family.
On August 11, 1968, she married the love of her life Gary Hylton and had 3 sons; William “Billy” (Krystal) Hylton, Raymond “Ray” (Ali) Hylton and Greg (Brandy) Hylton. She was ever proud to be a grandmother to her 7 grandchildren- Aylah, Hannah, Hayley, Raegan, Clay, Dakota and Erin; and 1 great-grandchild- Holli. She was also an aunt to 5 nieces and nephews, and 8 great nieces and nephews. There was also many more who considered her their “adopted” mom as she was frequently seen on the ball fields with her sons as they were growing up. Linda is survived by her father-Raymond M. (RM) Henderson, brother Mike (Brenda), sister Pat (Steve) Barker and brother Scott Henderson. She was preceded in death by her grandparents John and Ella Gathings and Milroy and Alma Henderson and her mother Geneva “Nita” Henderson. Linda was dearly loved by all and had such a loving gentle spirit…..unless you messed with one of her loved ones….
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church (6440 Old Statesville Road, Charlotte, NC 28269) with her funeral immediately following at 11 a.m. (Masks will be required) Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Grove UMC, St. Jude’s Hospital, or the ASPCA.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 11:00 am at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Charlotte with the interment at Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte following. There is a one hour visitation prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 am.
