Linda Wilson Smith's Obituary
Frances Linda Wilson Smith of Huntersville died December 5, 2025 at Novant Hospice Care in downtown Charlotte.
Linda was born in Charlotte on August 26th 1940 to the late Samuel Moore Wilson and Frances Stephens Christenbury Wilson.
She married Harry Melvin Smith on February 20th, 1959. They had 66 wonderful years together.
She is survived by her loving husband, Harry Melvin Smith, Her Daughter, Linda Joyce Smith Untz (Nancy Mertz); Son-In-Law, David Glenn Phillips, Jr.; Grandchildren: Kimberly Nicole Untz Key (Jimmy); Tamie Laurin Untz Boone, (Kevin), David Glenn Phillips,III, Brandy Leigh Phillips Williams (Justin) and Harry Smith Phillips; Great Grandchildren: Collier Monroe Norris, Summer Leigh Williams, Chase Russell Williams, Noah William Phillips, Levi Michael Key, Zoie Lynn Key And Calie Mae Boone. Brother-In-Law, Rev. Richard (Dick) Shaw.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Neana Elaine Smith Phillips, her parents, granddaughter, Christy Leigh Untz, sister: Zoie Jane Wilson Shaw: brother: Samuel Moore Wilson, Jr..
In her teenage years Linda played basketball for Long Creek School when it was 1st – 9th grades and she graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1958. Linda went to work for Southern Bell in September of 1958. She worked there for 8 years. She quit in June of 1967 to be home with her daughters. She was the first crossing guard for Long Creek Elementary School, was cashier in the Long Creek cafeteria for 13 years and sold radio advertising for a short time. She and Harry were youth advisors at Hopewell Church and went on many camping trips with the youth as counselors. She returned to work for Southern Bell in December of 1980 and retired from Bellsouth in 1997 with 25 years’ service.
Linda & Harry enjoyed many wonderful vacation trips with their family and extended family friends. Linda enjoyed a wonderful retirement with Harry, the love of her life.
A memorial service will be held December 9, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 10500 Beatties Ford Road, Huntersville, NC 28078 conducted by Rev. Alistair Anquetil. There will be visitation following the service in the family life center.
