Lloyd Wilson's Obituary
Lloyd Archie Wilson, 82, of Charlotte NC, passed away on April 7, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte NC. Lloyd was born December 27, 1930 in Candor NC, to parents Labron and Alice Wilson. Lloyd joined the Army on December 29, 1948 and served until his retirement on October 31, 1970. Lloyd fought in the Pusan defense and breakout and at theChong-chon River and Kuni-ri in Korea and the 1969 Tet counteroffensive in Vietnam. He served as a Private First Class in the 9th Infantry Regiment in Korea, and as Battalion Sargent Major of the 3/8th Infantry in Vietnam. Lloyd was awarded numerous medals including the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star for valor. After concluding his Army career Lloyd married the love of his life Thalia Adams on September 1, 1972. Lloyd also began a second career with the Federal Reserve Bank in Charlotte NC in 1977, and served until his retirement in 1998. In spite of his many accomplishments in both the Army and Federal Reserve, Lloyd considered his greatest accomplishment becoming a Christian, and credited his wife Thalia with sharing the Gospel with him. Upon his conversion to Christianity Lloyds, life was characterized by his service to the church and generosity to those in need.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Thalia, son Jeffery, and sisters Wilma Hawks and Carol Davis, and greatly anticipated his reunion with them in Heaven. Lloyd is survived by daughters Tajon Chappell (Jerry Ashley), Tara McDaniel (Mark McDaniel), and Tonya Smith (Charles Smith), and ten grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 beginning at 12 noon at Statesville Road Baptist Church with the funeral to follow at 1 PM. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
