Louise Hord's Obituary
Louise (Dickey) Hord, 96, of Huntersville, NC, died peacefully on December 19, 2025.
Louise was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles E. Hord and daughter, Melissa Sumski.
Louise is survived by her children, Charles (Jaclyn) Hord, Jennifer (Geoff) Gregory and Jeffrey (Susan) Hord. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren Elizabeth, Corinne (Patrick), Marisa (Paul), Ryan (Jaimie), Christopher (Lauren), Spencer (Brittany), Andrew (Brittney), Dylan and Kevin as well as eleven great grandchildren; Michael, Kayleigh, Brayden, Evelyn, Charles, David, Mila, Ella, Lola, Leigha and Ethan. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and her loyal, feline friend, Chloe.
Daughter of Richard and Anna Dickey, Louise was born and raised in Streeter, Illinois with her siblings, preceded in death, Evelyn, Dorothy, Glen, Jerry and Clarence. Louise attended the University of Illinois and soon after met and married her husband, Charles. They remained in the midwest as they grew their family and then moved to Moorestown, New Jersey where they settled for many years. Louise wore a plethora of hats in her lifetime from an accomplished career woman within brokerage firms and investment banking to an esteemed horticulturalist. To say that Louise had a “green thumb” is an understatement. She headstarted & maintained many gardens within her community and local schools. Louise was always thirsty for knowledge. Education to her was as vital as sunshine to her garden. She had a true gift of conversation and her intelligence and worldly knowledge could guide her through any social situation. Louise created a warm and inviting home where she hosted numerous holidays with tablescapes that were simply elegant and meals that could earn a Michelin Star. She created holiday magic and a lifetime of memories for her family. Retirement gifted Louise and Charles the time to travel the United States to some of their favorite destinations from Maine to Mt. Rushmore. They spent summers sailing on the Jersey Shore and sharing their love of Surf City with their family. Shortly after Charles passed away, Louise packed her suitcase, grabbed her co-pilot, the cat and took a life changing, solo road trip to Alaska. After the passing of her husband, Louise moved to North Carolina where she lived the last twenty-five years of her life in the suburbs of Charlotte and was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Jennifer, as her adventurous life slowed down. Louise knew the secret to living a full, meaningful life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2025 at NorthLake Memorial Gardens.
