Loyd "Sonny" Watkins Jr. 's Obituary
Loyd Archie "Sonny" Watkins, Jr. 79 of Charlotte died July 27, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 20, 1940 in Charlotte to the late Loyd Archie Watkins, Sr. and Doris Eatman Watkins. His brother Baxter Watkins preceded him in death.
Sonny was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and an Auctioneer with Lawing Auction Company. He was a member of Paw Creek American Legion Post 353; Long Creek Masonic Lodge; Scottish Rights; NRA; and devoted member of the Disciples Class of Pleasant Grove U.M.C. Some of his favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, and piddling in his shop. Sonny was an amazing "Sweetie", "Daddy", and "Pawpaw" to his family who loved him very much!
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 56 years Brenda Lawing Watkins; son, Ronnie Watkins and wife Rebecca of Lake Wylie; daughters, Tammy Watkins of Belmont, and Sandy Walters and husband Eric of Kernersville; brother, Dale Watkins and wife Linda; sister-in-law, Emily Watkins; sister-in-law, Sandra Sing; 4 grandchildren, Brittany, Wednesday, Grant, and Macey; 1 great-grandchild, Dani; and many special nephews and nieces.
Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove U.M.C. "Bereavement Fund" 1915 Oakdale Rd. Charlotte, NC 28216.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM Tuesday, July 30 at Pleasant Grove U.M.C. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 11-12:30 prior to the funeral service in the sanctuary.
