LTC Army (RET)'s Obituary
LTC Harry P. Frizzell, US Army, (RET) of South Hill, VA and formerly of Alexandria, VA for forty-eight years, passed away of natural causes on Saturday, January 20, 2018, in South Hill, VA.
Harry was born in Drumright, OK on February 15, 1922. He was the son of the late John Taylor and Gladys Putman Frizzell. He graduated from Drumright High School in 1940. Harry was known as “Ace” Frizzell for his football skills, and was Student Body President.
He was extremely proud of his family, his hometown, his military service, our great nation and The University of Oklahoma, where all four of his children graduated from and Harry earned his Master’s degree. He was a man of honor, dignity and integrity.
Harry’s military career spanned in excess of 35 years. He served during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War as well as peace keeping assignments in Germany and stateside. He was a Master Army Aviator with over 4000 hours of flight time in numerous fixed and rotary wing aircraft. He earned the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Medal along with numerous other medals.
In addition to his parents, Harry is predeceased by his first wife, Jeannine Lacey Frizzell (1972), a son, Lyndall Frizzell (1988), brother, Joe Pat Frizzell and sister, Mary Clark and her husband, Bill Clark.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carmen Maquirang Frizzell of South Hill, VA., sons, MAJ Russell J. Frizzell, US Army (RET) and his wife, Nancy of Brandon, FL., Harry Patrick Frizzell of Cornelius, NC and daughter, Renee Frizzell of Cornelius, NC; and stepdaughter, Becky Woo and her husband, Billy of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, Bob Frizzell and his wife, Mary, Bill Frizzell and his wife, Evelyn and sister, Betty Thomas and her husband, Jack; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Friday, January 26, 2018, at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 27, at Grace Covenant Church, 17301 Statesville, Rd, Cornelius, NC 28031, with Pastor Farrell Lemings officiating. A funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 31, 2018, in Palmer Marler Funeral Home and burial will follow in Fairlawn Memorial Park, Cushing, OK.
A special gratitude of thanks from the family goes out to Mary Castillo of Charlotte, who has assisted the family during this time of loss.
In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests Memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
