In Loving Memory of Lum Evette Amungwa
Lum Evette Amungwa, a beloved resident of 11705 Maher Lane, Huntersville, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. This obituary serves to honor her enduring legacy, while also providing details on funeral arrangements and ways in which the family may be supported during this difficult time.
Born on June 16, 1982, Evette was a native of Bamendankwe, a village in Bamenda, Cameroon, Central Africa. In 2015, she moved to the United States with her family, initially settling in Baltimore, Maryland. While there, she embraced her Christian faith and became a devoted member of Mount Paran Presbyterian Church, actively participating in the Christian Women Fellowship (CWF). In 2018, she relocated to North Carolina, where she joined Backcreek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and became an integral member of the church choir.
Evette pursued higher education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, earning a bachelor's degree in nursing. She began her professional career at Atrium Health, working at Atrium University Hospital for four months before stepping away due to health concerns. She later joined Bethel Home Health Inc. as a nurse but was once again forced to curtail her work due to persistent health challenges.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 17 years, Victor Amungwa; their children, Loisbright Amungwa, Keziah Amungwa, Blossom Amungwa, and Bliss Amungwa, all of Huntersville, NC; her mothers, Esther Abongwa of Huntersville, NC, and Dorothy Mae Bell of Sykesville, MD; her brother, Devine Menkienfor of Yaoundé, Cameroon; and her sisters, Solange Abongwa of Bamenda, Cameroon; Nangah Abongwa Sidoline of Columbia, SC; Ngenue Lucy Abongwa Epse Tarh of the United Arab Emirates; and Siri Emelda Love of Bamenda, Cameroon. She also leaves behind numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends, colleagues, and loved ones whose lives she touched.
A viewing will take place on Saturday, June 14, at 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 5:00 PM at Backcreek Presbyterian Church, located at 1821 Back Creek Church Road, Charlotte, NC 28213. A celebration of life will be held later that evening at Fiesta Banquet Hall, 1516 Alleghany Street, Charlotte, NC 28208, at 7:00 PM.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at James Funeral Home of Huntersville, 10520 Arahova Dr, Huntersville, NC 28078.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lum Amungwa Legacy Fund.
