Luz Maria Torres' Obituary
In Loving Memory of Luz Maria Torres
November 22, 1933 – July 26, 2025
With deep love and faith in God's promises, the family of Luz Maria Torres announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born in Palma Soriano, Cuba, Luz was one of sixteen children and the last surviving sibling, a quiet witness to her strength and enduring faith. In 1959, she courageously left Cuba with her husband, Enrique, the evening of their wedding day and began a new life in the United States, trusting in God’s providence.
She was the devoted wife of the late Enrique Torres, and together they gave their lives to build a foundation for their family’s future. Together, they raised two children, Lucy and Enrique Jr. (Rick). In 1994, Luz and Enrique moved in with their daughter Lucy and her husband John, living with them and their nine children till the end of her days.
Luz was a faithful woman who found strength and comfort in her Catholic faith, which brightened her days and gave her lasting strength. In her final days, she was always grateful and humbly praised all those who cared for her. She was parishioner of St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville, North Carolina, and formed lasting friendships with many who encouraged and prayed with her.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lucy, and son-in-law, John, along with their nine children & spouses: Fr. Jonathan, Matthew (Kirsten), Elisa (Alex), Sarah (Lee), Joseph (Rosemary), Maria (Michael), Anna, Maximilian, Xavier, and Luz’s eight precious great-grandchildren (Dominic, Isaac, Ella, Sophia, Adrian, Benedict, Natalia & Elijah). She is also cherished by her son, Rick, daughter-in-law, Jessica, and their son, Christian.
Luz was a gentle light to all who knew her, sharing her talent for cooking with delicious Cuban meals and a warm smile. Her Pudin de Pan (bread pudding), Empanadas, and Congri (black beans with rice) were favorites at family gatherings, and created lasting memories. She leaves a legacy of faith and love for her family, and a life devoted to caring for others and making them feel welcome.
