Mac Douglas "Chris" Christenbury, Sr.'s Obituary
Mac Douglas "Chris" Christenbury, Sr., died from multiple health issues at the age of 71 on September 2, 2019. His wife and brother were at his side at his time of passing.
He was born John McCleve Douglas Jr. to J. M. Douglas Sr. and Peggy M. Douglas in Fairfield County, S. C. After the untimely death of his father he was adopted by Lloyd Kenneth “Ken” Christenbury after Ken’s and Peggy’s marriage. Chris’ name was then changed to incorporate all family names.
Chris was educated through the Mecklenburg County school system. He also attended trade schools and college continuing education classes throughout his life.
Chris served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era as a Radarman 2C (second class) aboard the U.S.S. Waller DD/DDE 466 and on numerous shore stations from 1964 to 1968.
He served at the Charlotte Police Department from 1969 until 1980 and was retired on disability which occurred in the line of duty.
He was a master at fixing anything mechanical. His love of reading served him well all his life and he could talk about any subject with some confidence.
He is survived by his son, Mac Douglas “Little Chris” Christenbury, Jr., his wife, Mary Moore Christenbury, his brother James Randolph “Randy” Christenbury and his niece Kathryn Diane Christenbury. Plus the huge Moore clan of aunts, uncles and cousins on his mother’s side.
Memorials may be made to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.
