Manuel Raymundo Borrell's Obituary
Manuel (Manny) Raymundo Borrell, age 56, of Northstone Drive Huntersville, died June 1st 2017 after a long illness. Manuel was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Manuel (Manny) was born in Madrid, Spain and grew up in Carolina Puerto Rico. He enjoyed prayers, spending time with family and friends, watching movies and playing various instruments including the guitar and the bass. He was also a national award winning poet.
Manny is survived by his wife of 34 years, Nancy Bonafont-Borrell, their children Michelle Borrell, Shannon Borrell Lannon and son-in law Derrick Lannon as well as his parents Miriam Garrido and Osvaldo Borrell. Manny has three surviving brothers Osvaldo Borrell, Gino Borrell, Alex Borrell and a beloved first cousin Albert Perez. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins. Manny was also a loving and proud grandfather to Derrick and Raymond Lannon. He loved them, mentored them, and tutored them in “Grandpa’s School”.
Manny graduated from Central Michigan University with a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration. Manny was a veteran of the United States Army where he proudly served twenty one years as a Major. Even though he made the Lieutenant Colonels promotion list he retired to support Nancy’s executive career. Manny was a Godly, conservative, patriotic and humanitarian man. After retiring from the U.S. Army, he became administrator for Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Manny and his family spent 12 happy years in Peachtree City, GA where he and his wife led two Latin Christian Choirs. Manuel was musically gifted directing the Spanish Flavor Band in GA and Herencia (Heritage) Band in Texas at City Hall community events. Manuel was recruited by Novant Health Systems where he developed and directed the Kannapolis Medical Logistics Center for 5 years.
Manny was a saintly man who could not get enough of studying scripture in depth. He was a man with integrity, charity and unremarkable character. Manuel loved God first, his beloved wife Nancy and his family, friends and the world. Manny was a very giving and charitable man helping always those in need. The world was a better place with Manny in it and now Heaven has embraced him with open arms. He will always be remembered by those fortunate enough to have met him. His beloved wife Nancy will miss her eternal lover.
Visitation will be Sunday June 4, 2017 from 6 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 7:00 at James Funeral Home of Huntersville.
Burial will be at Salisbury National Cemetery (202 Government Rd, Salisbury, NC 28144) on Wednesday, June 7 at 10 a.m. Information regarding location and interment details are available at (704) 636-2661.
