Margaret "Peggy" Gant's Obituary
Margaret "Peggy" Emily Eaves Gant, 89, of Huntersville, NC, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, after a courageous lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was surrounded by her loving family at Brookdale Concord Parkway.
Peggy was born on October 26, 1935, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC, to the late Larkin Bayfield Eaves and Lillian Faye Blake Eaves. She grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Central High School in 1954, where she excelled in athletics—playing basketball and competing in track, where she earned second place in state competitions.
In 1955, Peggy met the love of her life, Glenn Richard Gant Sr., and they were married in January 1956 in York, SC. Together, they raised two children, Glenda and Richard, and mourned the loss of two stillborn sons. Peggy and Glenn were pillars of the Long Creek community, dedicating countless hours to organizations such as the Optimist Club, Masons, Shriners, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Their faith was central to their lives, and they were devoted lifetime members of Long Creek Baptist Church and later Huntersville First Baptist Church.
Peggy was actively involved in her community throughout her life. She coached cheerleading and girls' softball for the Optimist Club, worked with the Girls in Action (GA’s) at Long Creek Baptist Church, and served as a Junior and Cadette Girl Scout leader at Hopewell Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed bowling in a league at Freedom Lanes and played on the Huntersville First Baptist Women’s Softball team.
After the children were grown and out of the house, she joined the Long Creek Order of the Eastern Star, being initiated on November 17, 1977. She served several terms as Worthy Matron and took on the role of District Deputy Grand Matron in 1985–1986, traveling throughout the district to support local chapters. From 1991-1993 she served as the Grand Representative of Oklahoma in North Carolina.
The real light of her life was her grandchildren and then her great grandchildren. She lovingly cared for her granddaughters, Emily and Megan, before and after school during their early years. She cherished every moment shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Glenn, Peggy is survived by her daughter, Glenda Gant Williams (Gil); her son, Glenn Richard Gant Jr. (Libby); 4 grandchildren Emily Gant Trotter (Austin), Rev. Megan Gant Hager (Jared), Ethan Williams (Ashley), and Adam Gant (Emily); and 6 great-grandchildren Bailey Trotter, Ava Grace Trotter, Emberlee Hager, Davis Hager, Henry Hager, and Brycen Gant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Larkin “Big Bub” Eaves Jr. and George “Little Bud” Eaves; her sisters, Lillian Eaves DeShields and Hazel “Sissy” Eaves Hall; an infant grandson, Matthew Patton Williams; and her two stillborn sons.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at James Funeral Home of Huntersville. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., with interment immediately following at Huntersville First Baptist Church cemetery. The service will be officiated by her granddaughter, Rev. Megan Hager.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at VIA Health Partners (Hospice) and Brookdale Concord Parkway.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp Gray Rock, 337 Camp Rainbow Road, Boone, NC 28607, or to a charity of your choice.
