Joan Leber
I am a cousin of Margaret Elizabeth. My father was John Julius Stafford Jr. (Jack). I remember my father taking our family to White Lake to see Margaret Elizabeth and her family several times when I was young. Her son John was walking around singing one time when he was about four.
Both Margaret Elizabeth and Aunt Dorothy taught in the Fayetteville City Schools in NC. After returning to NC from PA, I taught a few years in this same school. Aunt Dorothy and Margaret Elizabeth were no longer teaching there. The school librarian knew Aunt Dorothy and Margaret Elizabeth. She even called me "Little Staff" a couple of times. Aunt Dorothy was very kind to me while I lived in Fayetteville.
Margaret Elizabeth and I began exchanging Christmas cards when she lived in N. Myrtle Beach and I lived in Chapel Hill, NC. I always enjoyed hearing from her. My siblings and I would spend a week at Myrtle Beach sometimes. Margaret Elizabeth joined us for a reunion and lunch a few years back. Another time before her husband Buck Holcombe passed away, she joined all of us again for lunch. We did take out and ate in. We had a long enjoyable visit with her. I think of Margaret Elizabeth at Christmas time and know she is missed by many people who love her.
