Margaret "Peggy" Hough's Obituary
Huntersville - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret "Peggy" Stillwell Hough on January 5, 2025, at the age of 80. Peggy was born on January 29, 1944 to the late Blennie and Lola Nelson Stillwell.
She was one of nine children, 7 of which preceded her in death; Peg is survived by one brother, Kenny Stillwell, wife Gloria of Huntersville. Peggy is additionally survived by sister-in-law June Stillwell (Jim), for which she shared a special bond.
Peggy graduated from North Mecklenburg High School, which is where she met a young man by the name of Butch Hough. They were married, while still in High School, and celebrated 57 years of marriage prior to Butch's passing in 2019.
Together, Butch and Peggy raised four girls, Julie (Ian), Jana (Chris), Cindy (Jimmy) and Wendy (Bobby). Peggy loved and enjoyed spending time with her "girls" and her 6 grandchildren, Brandon, Zack, Brooke, Brittany, Kelsey and Trevor, and 9 great-grandchildren Lucas, Kayden, Aubrie, Addie, Bentley, Riley, Bella, Gracie and Rhett.
In her early years, Peggy worked at Ivey's in Charlotte. But once she became a Mother, that became her primary focus in life. Peggy was the epidemy of a homemaker - a great cook, canning and freezing vegetables from Butch's garden. She was an incredibly talented seamstress and enjoyed smocking, often making her children's and grandchildren's clothing. Peggy even made her girls wedding gowns as well as their wedding cakes. She was phenomenal at every task she took on. Peggy also had a tremendous passion for any and all flowers that bloomed.
Peggy was a good and faithful servant of God, she cherished her family, and donated her time and talents to her church and the community. She was instrumental in starting Trinity's "Backpack Ministry", which has positively impacted countless young lives, and continues to thrive today.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to:
Lisa Laney - for her compassionate dedication, support, and the love she provided to our Mom as she entered advanced stages of Alzheimer's. And to Eileen, of VIA Health Partners. Over the past year, Eileen has cared for Mama with the utmost compassion, ensuring Mama's comfort and dignity, until the very end. Eileen also served as an invaluable resource to our family as we struggled to understand this horrific disease. These two lovely ladies are indeed angels among us.
