Margaret Rogers Davis' Obituary
Mrs. Davis, 86, a life-long resident of Huntersville, NC, died Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Presbyterian Hospital – Huntersville. With declining health, she had been a resident of Olde Knox Commons in Huntersville for the past 3 years.
Funeral will be a graveside service to be held on Wednesday, September 7, at 11:00 am at Huntersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Rev. Vernon Dodd, pastor of Huntersville Presbyterian Church. Family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born on November 8, 1924, in Mecklenburg County, Mrs. Davis was the eldest of three children born to the late John Herman Rogers, Sr. and Helen Brown Rogers. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janet R. Chapman, and her brother, John H. (Cotton) Rogers, Jr.
After retiring from Sears, Roebuck & Co., with 40 years of service, Mrs. Davis became her mother’s full-time caregiver until her mother’s death. For many travelers of Gilead Road, she was the lady always walking the black chow, Paco, her favorite granddog. Until her death, Mrs. Davis shared a milestone with Mrs. Beulah Ferrell Jordan of Huntersville as being the last surviving female graduates of Huntersville High School’s 1941 graduating class.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her two daughters and their families of Huntersville: Linda D. Sellers and husband, Ronald, and their daughter Julie M. Sellers; Carol D. Scott and husband, John, and their son, J. David Scott, Jr. and wife, Robbin; special great-granddaughter, Hannah Leigh Scott (13), and great-grandson, Jack Clarkson Scott (2-1/2), her favorite visitor. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Frances F. Rogers, of Davidson, NC and nephews, J. Michael Rogers of Davidson, David M. Rogers of Huntersville, and James R. (Jimmy) Rogers of Stanley, NC.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the Olde Knox Commons staff, CNAs, and her special roommate, Mrs. Sadie Phelps for their attention and care of our mother; the Present Word Class at Huntersville Presbyterian Church for always remembering her; and, a special thank you to Mrs. Mary Lou Richards who provided spiritual and loving care for our mother prior to her moving to Olde Knox Commons.
