Mark DeGorter's Obituary
Mark de Gorter, of Huntersville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, August 16th, at the age of 97.
Born and raised in Amsterdam, Mark's early life was marked by the profound challenges of living under Nazi occupation during World War II. Despite the hardships, he emerged with a deep sense of resilience and gratitude, which he carried with him throughout his life. Driven by a desire to express his appreciation for the Allies' role in liberating his homeland, he enlisted and served proudly in the United States military before immigrating to the United States and embarking on a remarkable business career. Mark's dedication and hard work saw him rise to the role of Chief Executive Officer at two California state banks, a testament to his exceptional leadership and vision.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mark was a devoted husband, father, and beloved friend. He had a natural ability to connect with others, building enduring relationships wherever he went. As a father, Mark was a constant presence, whether volunteering for his son's youth sports teams, attending school functions, or celebrating important family milestones. Despite the demands of his career, his family always came first.
Mark is survived by his three sons, Mark, David, and Tom, and seven grandchildren—Tyler, Ashley, Grant, Trevor, Jacqueline, Dylan, and Brooke. His grandchildren were a constant source of pride and joy in his life.
Mark will be remembered for his gentle demeanor, his genuine interest in others, and his unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and warmth that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A private family service will be held in his honor.
