Marshall Greene's Obituary
Marshall Steele Greene, 77, of Statesville, formerly of Charlotte died September 26, 2018 at the Gordon Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 30, 1941 to the late Marshall and Arline Greene. Marshall grew up in Charlotte, where he was an All-American Basketball player and All-Star Baseball player, playing in high school and college. He worked for the NC Department of Revenue as a tax law expert. He was a successful business owner following that career. He loved spending time with his family as well as traveling. His favorite vacation destinations were Alaska, Hawaii and Israel. He always enjoyed the opportunity to coach young people in athletics, and enjoyed playing basketball himself every week until his stroke. He was a generous man who always enjoyed raising money for worthy causes. He served in the church working with the youth, as a deacon and on various other committees. One of his personal passions was writing poetry and verse.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Dolores; sons, Richard (Merritt) of Orlando, FL and David (Nancy) of Houston, TX; daughter, Amanda Church (Jeff) of Statesville; grandchildren, Marissa, Michael, Westin, Jared, Andrew, Maggie and Jennie; and siblings, Ronald Greene (Barbara) of Huntersville and Marla Westmoreland (Mack) of Cornelius.
Memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Rd. Statesville, NC 28625.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Sunday, September 30 in the chapel of James Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service in the James Funeral Home Community Room. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
