Martha Washam Bradford's Obituary
Martha Neal Washam Bradford, 94, of Cornelius, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2019. The fourth child of George Lamar and Beulah Lee Washam, Martha was born on August 5th, 1924 and lived most of her life on Mulberry St, Cornelius, N.C. Mrs. Bradford worked in a missile plant in Charlotte during World War II. Her job was to hand carry bomb detonators between departments within the plant. Although her job was dangerous, Martha was proud of her contribution to the war effort. Mrs. Bradford is warmly remembered for her work at Harrill’s Variety Store in downtown Cornelius during the 1970s and 1980s.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Marvin J. Bradford, three sisters (Sara Young, Nancy Kilpatrick, Gloria Goforth), two brothers (Russell Washam, Jack Washam), son-in-law William Cook and grandson Joshua Cook.
She is survived by her five children: Jack W. Bradford (Brenda), James D. Bradford (Nancy), Steven L. Bradford (Ganell), Carolyn Cook, Nancy Archer (Michael), ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Visitation for the family will be at James Funeral Home (10520 Arahova Dr., Huntersville) on July 26 from 5 until 7 pm.
A celebration of her life will be held at Cornelius Presbyterian Church (21209 Catawba Ave., Cornelius) on July 27th at 3 pm. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion U.M.C.
