Martha Woodside Morrow's Obituary
Martha Frances Woodside Morrow passed away on January 22, 2020 at a home where she resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Martha was born on March 9, 1936 at the home where her parents lived in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was the only child of Mary Louise Christenbury Woodside and Gales Thomas Woodside.
Martha grew up in Huntersville, North Carolina, where she was surrounded by a large, extended family, including many first cousins who were like siblings to her. She graduated from North Mecklenburg High School and went on to attend Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
Martha married James Vason Morrow (Jimmie) at Hopewell Presbyterian Church on December 21, 1956. Martha and Jimmie moved to Decatur, Georgia, where Jimmie attended Columbia Seminary, and Martha worked as a medical secretary. After graduating from seminary, Jimmie served several Presbyterian churches throughout the southeast, and Martha and Jimmie had three daughters and one son. In 1972, Martha and Jimmie and their children moved to Umatilla, Florida, where Jimmie served the Umatilla Presbyterian Church. Martha lived in Umatilla for the next 47 years, leaving in 2019 to move to Albuquerque to be near her daughter.
Jimmie passed away in 1993. Several years later, Martha married Buford Reedy of Umatilla. Together Martha and Buford traveled throughout the United States, visiting family and friends and national and state parks. Martha loved to travel. With her children or a cousin, she traveled to Costa Rica, England, France, Guatemala, Italy, Mexico, Switzerland, Scotland, and Hawaii. She thoroughly enjoyed every minute of every trip.
Martha was an active member of Umatilla Presbyterian Church throughout the years she lived in Umatilla. She is an elder and served as an active member of session and as Mission Chair. In the latter capacity, she began and ran for a number of years the Backpack Program. This program delivered food-filled backpacks to needy children in the local elementary school every Friday to ensure they had food for the weekends.
Martha is survived by three daughters, Virginia (Ginny) Morrow Munger and her husband, Thomas (Tom) Munger, of Atlanta, GA; Frances (Fran) Morrow and her husband, Paul Berkely (Berke) Landrum, of Minden, NE; Rebecca (Becky) Morrow Dees and her husband, Philip (Phil) Lawrence Dees, of Albuquerque, NM; one son, James (Jim) Vason Morrow, Jr. and his partner, Sara Rodgers, of Boise, ID; six grandchildren, Alexander (Alex) Munger, of Athens, GA, and Patrick Munger, of Atlanta, GA; Lee Landrum, of Lincoln, NE, and Thomas Landrum, of Minden, NE; and Jacob (Jake) Dees and Julia Dees, of Albuquerque, NM.
A funeral service will take place on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at Hopewell Presbyterian Church at 3pm. A visitation with the family will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to One Great Hour of Sharing through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.
