Martha Poteat's Obituary
Martha Boyce Poteat, 85, of Charlotte, passed away unexpectedly at her home September 7, 2011. She was born on June 7, 1926 in Mecklenburg County to the late Samuel Charles Poteat, Sr. and Gertrude Love Poteat.
She graduated from Harding High School and retired from the Federal Government as an Appraiser for the F.H.A. and then worked as a real estate appraiser. She served in the Navy Reserve for 4 years.
She is survived by her brother, William Calvin Poteat of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Poteat of Charlotte; Newphews, Steve Poteat, Sam Poteat, Kenny Poteat, David Poteat, Sid Poteat, Brandon Ratcliff, Christopher Watts, Joshua Poteat, Josh Poteat and Jarrod Poteat as well as niece, Tracey Hoyle. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by step-mother Carrie Poteat; brothers, Samuel Charles Poteat, Jr. and Atwell Poteat; as well as nephews Gene and Michael Poteat and niece, Jackie Poteat Stephens.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 12:00 at Huntersville A.R.P. Church (200 N. Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC). Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11-12 in the church sanctuary prior to the service.
