Mary Anne O'Donnell's Obituary
Mary-Anne Schreier O’Donnell, 94, a native Washingtonian, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, the love of her life, John Jude O’Donnell.
Mary-Anne was born in Washington, D.C., to the late Margaret Brown Schreier and Edwin Philip Schreier. She also was predeceased by her siblings. Edwin Philip Schreier, Jr., Margaret Estelle Mooney, and Thomasine Brown Schreier.
Mary-Anne graduated from the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, MD and Trinity College, Washington, D.C. She was a long-time parishioner of St. Jane de Chantal Church, Bethesda, MD, before moving to North Carolina to be closer to three of her six children. Mary-Anne was strong in her faith, joining St. Mark Church in Huntersville, NC.
Before moving south, Mary-Anne enjoyed visiting Bethany Beach, DE with her sister Missy, participating in the Trinity College Education for Parish Services program, volunteering at Trinity College, attending book club with her childhood friends, and delighting in the achievements and antics of her six children, Philip J. O’Donnell, of Huntersville, NC, Mary Margeret O’Donnell (Steve Schulz) of Litchfield Park, AZ , Mary-Anne Russell (Donald) of New Milford, CT, Sheila Marie O’Donnell (Terry Shipton) of Huntersville, NC, Megan Hartley (Charles) of Davidson, NC, and Timothy J. O’Donnell (Noreen) of Emmitsburg, MD. She also leaves behind her beloved thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren, as well as many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews Without a doubt, Mary-Anne’s intellectual curiosity, quick mind, and great sense of humor helped her navigate the excitements of her large family and wonderful friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mark Church, Huntersville, NC on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends for a visitation at 10 am at St. Mark Catholic Church, Huntersville, NC. In keeping with Mary-Anne’s joyful spirit and her belief that funerals are a celebration of life, guests are warmly encouraged to wear bright colors. A private graveside burial service will be held at Gate of Heaven in Silver Spring, MD at a later date.
