Mary Cecilia "Tootsie" Evrard's Obituary
Mary “Tootsie” Evrard, who lived in Mt Sinai, New York, before moving to Cornelius, North Carolina, passed away on August 25, 2024. Born on March 6, 1942, in Manhattan, New York, she has now joined her husband John in eternity.
The love story of Tootsie and John Evrard began in 1960, leading to their marriage in 1963. John preceded her in death. Their marriage was blessed with four daughters: Tracey and Floros Efstratiou, Kerry Evrard and Glenn Marsh, Kelly Frazier, and Mary Evrard-Deutschman and Richard Deutschman, and six grandsons: Liam and Declan Frazier, John and Connor Evrard-Marsh, and Cole and Owen Deutschman.
Mary retired from the Three Village Transportation department, valuing her years of service highly. She was a dedicated member of the Terryville homemakers for over 40 years, a group her family fondly referred to as “school for mothers,” and was actively involved with the Cornelius newcomers for many years. Tootsie took great pride in her Irish heritage and her education at Sacred Heart academy in Belmont, NC. Known for her excellent sense of humor and festive outfits for every holiday, she brought joy across generations.
Mary was a role model for her family, setting high standards in every aspect of life.
Together with John, she raised their daughters to be strong, independent women, emphasizing the importance of family, hard work, and honor. She was a constant presence at school meetings, sports events, and musicals, supporting her daughters. Known for her generosity, she made sure her home was open to anyone in need, especially during the holidays, ensuring there was always space for one more.

The funeral mass will be held at 11:30 Friday, August 30 at St. Mark Catholic Church. Visitation will be 1 hour prior in the narthex. Burial will follow at Belmont Abbey.
