Mary Galloway's Obituary
Mary Garrison Galloway, affectionately known as Granny or Mrs. Mary, 95, of Charlotte, died September 6 after suffering a stroke. She was born December 10, 1920 in Union County to the late Young T and Maude Abigail Hayes Garrison. She graduated from Indian Trail High School in 1938. She worked for the Hudson Hosiery Mill before marriage. After her children graduated from high school, she worked as a personal shopper for the Belk Department Store.
She was a member of the Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church where she was a circle leader, Sunday School teacher, member of the Circle of Mary and honored by receiving the Life Membership of Women of the Church. Mary was a 4-H leader, started MCPC’s involvement with Alexander Children’s Center and matriarch of the Claybrooke neighborhood. She was a mother and granny to many.The Residents of Claybrooke will serve as honorary pallbearers.
She married Victor Query Galloway on September 10, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1976. She was also preceded in death by her son Gary Galloway and 12 siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen G. Hambright; granddaughters, Shannon Powers (Mike) and Tonya Galloway; 2 great-grandsons, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers, to the Levine and Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Dr. Huntersville, NC 28078 or the Bridge to Faith, 1733 Turning Leaf Ct. Charlotte, NC 28262.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of the Laurels of Highland Creek and the Levine Dickson Hospice House for their care, love and support.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 9 at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church with Rev. Shawn Barkley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11 prior at the church.
