Mary Kathryn Boye's Obituary
Mary Kathryn Boye, of Davidson, was born on a bicentennial farm in Rural Retreat, VA to Charles C. Steffey and Lilly M. Lundy. She was a graduate of Rural Retreat High School, and Emory and Henry College where she majored in history and Spanish.
She got to know her husband-to-be, Charles Andrew Boye, Jr. of Appalachia, VA, while staging an EHC production of Our Town performed at EHC and at Barter Theatre. She and Charlie shared life events through the Korean War, physics graduate school, and raising their family in Kingsport, TN. They were ever involved in their kids’ activities. Mary Kathryn and Charlie cherished their church fellowship at Mafair United Methodist Church, and especially enjoyed the many friends they found through playing bridge. Mary Kathryn moved to The Pines at Davidson in 2003 to be close to Dan and Ann’s family, and her granddaughter Christina who was attending Davidson College.
Mary Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles A. Steffey, her sister Ruby S. Paxson, her husband, and her daughter-in-law Lydia Boye. She is loved and survived by her son Clinton Andrew Boye and his daughter and son-in-law Christina and Jeremy Borden; and by her son Daniel Matthew Boye, his wife Ann Boye, and their daughter Ellie and son Charlie.
A memorial service will be held at 10 A.M. Tuesday, July 26 in the sanctuary of Davidson United Methodist Church. Visitation will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boye Family Scholarship at Emory and Henry College (www.ehc.edu/giving/ ).
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
