Mary Lou Gillis Pulido's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Mary Lou Pulido
Mary Lou Pulido, born on February 16, 1953, in Michigan, was a remarkable woman whose legacy will forever be treasured. She peacefully passed away on September 20, 2023, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories.
Mary was the loving daughter of her late parents (Donald and Frances) and a dear sister to her late brothers (Larry and John). Her early childhood was spent on a farm in Michigan, where her love for caring for cows and chickens bloomed. Her spirit of hard work and determination shone brightly from a young age. By the tender age of five, she was already helping with laundry, and at just nine, she fearlessly shingled roofs alongside her father.
Mary's unwavering dedication and work ethic led her to a remarkable career. She began as a janitor and, through her relentless commitment, rose through the ranks to become a building manager for the State of Michigan. Her responsibilities included overseeing several Michigan government office buildings in downtown Lansing as well as at the State Secondary Complex. Her professional journey was adorned with numerous certifications. She was most well known for being hands on, rolling up her shirt sleeves to assist, her expertise and witty repartee, earning her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and friends.
After retiring, Mary devoted her time to her family and her beloved dogs. She had a passion for cooking, thrift store shopping, crafting jewelry, and sewing clothes. Her heart found its greatest joy in spending quality time with her family, sharing stories, memories and laughter.
Mary lived in Michigan until about four years ago when she made a move to North Carolina, seeking warmer weather and the opportunity to visit the ocean and the mountains she had longed to explore.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Mary recognized her for her sweetness, humor, and the sparkle in her eyes. It’s also known that Mary Pulido did not tolerate tomfoolery; she stood as a steadfast pillar of strength and determination.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Betony Pulido (Moheb Messiah), sons Joe Pulido III (Ashley) and James Pulido (Terry). She now joins her husband, Joe Frank Pulido Jr, who passed away in October 2008, in eternal peace.
In our hearts, Mary Lou Pulido will forever be remembered as a loving mother, sister, and friend. Her legacy of hard work, laughter, dedication, and no-nonsense attitude will continue to inspire us all. May her soul rest in peace, and her memory live on in our hearts.
No services will be held as this was Mary’s wish.
