Mary Evelyn Pankey's Obituary
Mary Evelyn Pankey, 84, of Huntersville went to be with the Lord on July 17th, 2022.
She was born in Columbus Junction, Iowa on July 1st, 1938, to the late Arthur Verne Wilson and Nellie Evelyn Wilson. She was raised in Morning Sun, IA where she captured Russell Pankey’s heart by the third grade. Russell became the love of her life, and they were married June 26th, 1959. She attended higher education at Parsons College where she earned her teaching degree. She was a teacher at Countryside Montessori School in Charlotte, NC. She would go on to become a beloved teacher and mentor by going above and beyond the curriculum ensuring that every child had an equal opportunity to learn. She had an incredible insight, love, and passion for her children at Countryside. In her free time, she enjoyed baking, reading, gardening, and watching the wildlife in her backyard. She was a gentle, peaceful soul. A selfless individual who lived with such grace and kindness in her heart. She lived a life that made everybody she encountered feel like a part of her family. She left behind a legacy of love, devotion, and faith.
She is survived by her husband, Russell Pankey, and their children Lori Anderson, Jason (Sue) Pankey, and Justin (LeAnne) Pankey; along with six grandchildren and one great -grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 22 at James Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time.
