Mattes Samuelson's Obituary
Mattes (Matt) Samuelson, 72, passed away peacefully on August 28th, 2015 at his home in Huntersville, North Carolina surrounded by his family. He was born on December 6th, 1942 in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of Jerry and Ethel Samuelson. He was the eldest of 3 siblings. In addition to his parents, Matt is preceded in death by his sister, Carol Samuelson. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his oldest son Matt, and his wife Ashley; his youngest son, Scott; his two grandchildren, Olivia and Owen Samuelson, and his brother Aleck, and wife Cheryl Samuelson.
Matt graduated from North Miami Beach High School in 1960. He married Lorraine on July 3, 1965, and they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Matt was truly blessed to have married his best friend and lived an incredibly fulfilled life. Nothing was more important to Matt than his family and they were always close by him. Matt’s grandchildren were the light of his life.
Matt was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed both playing and watching most sports. He had a penchant to always root for the underdog in sports and in life. He was an animal lover and was looking forward to reuniting with all the family pets over his lifetime.
In addition to Matt’s family, Matt made numerous lifelong friends. He felt very blessed to have such a tight-knit family, and so many close friends. Matt always tried to be there for everyone, giving in any way he could.
A service celebrating Matt’s life will be held at Huntersville United Methodist Church, 14005 Stumptown Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078, on Saturday September 5th at 1:00PM. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Pastor Paul Thompson will officiate.
