Matthew Lynch's Obituary
Matthew James Lynch, age 44, of Huntersville, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024.Matt was born in Boca Raton, FL. He moved to Santa Fe, NM, for a period of time and then settled in NC, where he met his wife, Marilyn. They have three children: Peyton, Maddex, and Presley.
He was a fantastic husband and father, and he worked very hard every day to care for his family. He loved his wife and children dearly and continued striving to be the man he knew he could be for himself and for them. He succeeded. The growth he has shown over the years is inspiring. Those who knew him well can attest to that.
He was a chef most of his working life, working at various restaurants over the years, eventually helping to open the beloved Cafe 100, and being its head chef. After they parted ways, he finished his career in the kitchen at Davidson College. In 2021, he decided to retire from the kitchen and work from home with his wife, Marilyn, to forge a new path. He focused on faith, family, sobriety, and school.
He was a member of Mecklenburg Community Church. He gave his life to Jesus and was baptized on August 24, 2013. He also participated for a time in the Celebrate Recovery program at the church.
Matt was part of the local AA community. Although he did not attend on a regular basis, he was connected in other ways through his sponsor and online resources to help support him in his recovery. When he passed, he had 1037 days of sobriety from alcohol, and we thank God for that every day. He had made an impact on sobriety in our lives and others' lives, and we are beyond grateful.
He had a love for music, specifically an array of rock music ranging from oldies to progressive metal. He played the drums and was part of a local band, Tidalwave, from 2012-2014. An album titled "The Early Years, Vol. 2" was released in 2021 of their recordings.
Matt started attending Liberty University in 2021 to obtain a bachelor's degree in accounting. He currently holds a 3.61 GPA, which is an amazing achievement for him.
In addition to his love for his family, cooking, and music, he liked being outdoors, running, walking on the beach, hiking in the mountains, and keeping up with sports, specifically being an avid fan of The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and The Florida State Seminoles. He was ultimately a down-to-earth person who will be missed dearly. He is here, in his children, in his wife, and in his family. He once again proved to be an inspiration to everyone dear to him. He will forever be loved.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Marilyn Imperi Lynch; their children, Peyton Riley Lynch (19), Maddex James Lynch (14), and Presley Rayne Lynch (8); his father, Kevin Lynch (Melissa) of Morrisville, NC; his siblings; Teresa McNamara (Chris) of Tampa, FL, Kristen Lynch of St. Augustine, FL, and Justin Lynch (Jamie) of Greensboro, NC; his in-laws, Brenda Malcolm (Ronald) of China Grove, NC and Andrea Vance (Nick) of Denver, NC. Survivors also include aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his unborn child, Lil Bean; his mother, Deborah Ann Lynch; his brother, Jason Bryan Hatch; and grandparents
