I am Uncle Don’s oldest nephew and live in Washington State. Aunt Mattie was a very special, wonderful lady! When my daughter Kristi was married in 2001, Uncle Don and Aunt Mattie traveled out West for the wedding; they were wined and dined as the oldest couple at the wedding. On their first trip out West (to Washington State) together in the early 1990’s, I picked them up at the Seattle airport in early April. Aunt Mattie wanted to see Mt. Rainier (14,440 ft) and visit the visitor center on the mountain. Aunt Mattie was worried however about the road having sheer drop-offs on the side of the narrow road as you drive up, in the summer you can see hundreds of feet down off one side. No problem in early April, the road had 20 plus feet of snow on both sides of the road (like an open tunnel of snow) she never saw any cliff drop-offs. At the visitor center the snow was five stories high, she couldn’t believe how much snow was there.
Brooklyn, I remember meeting you at Aunt Mattie’s 90th birthday party, (she could finally admit her age !!!). In many conversations with both Uncle Don and Aunt Mattie, your name was mentioned frequency; you had a special place in her heart. Aunt Mattie is now in haven, those of us here on earth have wonderful memories to cherish with us.
My wife Dianne, my children Kristi, David, and Michelle extend our warmest wishes and thoughts to all of Aunt Mattie’s family. Our love is with all of you.
