Merlin Harold Carr's Obituary
Merlin Harold Carr was born on November 23, 1929, and departed this life for the next on June 27, 2023, in his home in Charlotte, NC. Merlin was born in Miller, South Dakota, where his family homestead is located.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Delores LaOna Carr; his parents, Harold and Ethel Carr; and two brothers, Wayne and Gene Carr. He is survived by his three children, Debra Stipe and husband Peter of Williamsburg, VA, Constance Williams of Louisville, KY, and Stephen Carr and wife Tamara of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren, Julie Wilson, David Stipe, Kelly Williams, Carey Lavallee, Timothy Williams, Ashley Bernet, Dani Carr; thirteen great grandchildren; sister, Donna Allen of California; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Merlin served in the Navy (1948-1952) as a communications radioman, and later in the Marine Reserves. He was a Christian man who lived out his faith, not only in word, but in deed. He served the Lord in numerous congregations in the capacity of deacon, elder, prison ministry, prayer ministry and mission work. He worked with all ages in the church and most recently at 93 years old, served in the junior high ministry at the church he presently attends.
There was no end to his love of an adventure, travel, and enlightening everyone with his stories. No one was a stranger to him because he was one of the kindest, most loving, and compassionate individuals that anyone could meet. By the end of a conversation, he would know the person’s name, schooling, occupation, family history, and hobbies. He loved the Lord and treasured his family.
