Michael Alan Rather's Obituary
Michael A. Rather, 65, of Charlotte died December 23, 2014. He was born in Otter Tail, MN on October 27, 1949 to the late Ralph and Barbara Rather. He was raised in Pacifica, CA. A veteran of the Vietnam War (‘67-‘68), he was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. He worked for Pacific Bell in California as a telephone lineman and then moved to Rhode Island where he worked for Verizon Communications until he retired in 2006 when he moved to Charlotte. He was an avid musician, a Harley Davidson enthusiast and a member of the Generations Corvette Club.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years Deborah Rather; son, Stephen of W. Warick, RI; daughter, Jessica Rather of Mesa, AR and their mother Vicki; sister, Leslie Gerwin of San Jose, CA; half brothers Clifford and John of CA as well as nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, December 28 in the chapel of James Funeral Home with a reception to follow in the James Funeral Home Community Room.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
