Michael Kerns' Obituary
Michael (Mike) Jack Kerns, 72, of Conway, SC, passed peacefully at his residence on January 12th, 2024. A North Carolina native, Mike was born on January 13, 1951, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Francis Melvin Kerns and the late Frances Scercy Kerns. He graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1969. Mr. Kerns was a long time member of the Long Creek Masonic Lodge #205, retired from United Parcel Service after 20 dedicated years as a mechanic and fleet manager. Shortly after retirement he established Kerns Truck and Trailer Repair Service where he was a successful business owner-operator for over 20 years. Following his second retirement, he served as a parts delivery driver for Napa Auto Parts in Little River, SC.
Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Stowe Kerns; sons, Rob Kerns (Lauran) of Broadway, NC and Brian Kerns (Jennifer) of Sanford, NC; daughters, Jacqueline Powell (Robert) of Fuquay Varina, NC; Cortney Zwirn (Joey) of Clarksville, TN and beloved dachshund Willy. Known as Paw Paw, he is also survived by six grandchildren, Jordan Kerns, Austin Kerns (Alicia), Ethan Kerns, Mia Powell, Charli Powell, and Maverick Zwirn; and a great-grandchild, Victoria. Also surviving are his sister, Wanda Davis (Neal), and brothers, Larry Kerns (Pam) and Rick Kerns (Donna). Mike was a loving husband, father, Paw Paw, and enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to work. Mike was a masterful mechanic and there was nothing he couldn't fix.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 17th, 2024 at James Funeral Home with Rev. Shelton Davis officiating. A Masonic graveside service will follow in the Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior at the funeral home.
