Michael Turek's Obituary
Michael Walter Turek, 70 of Matthews died February 3, 2019 at Novant-Matthews. He was born on June 9, 1948 in Ludlow, MA to the late Mitchell and Viola Turek.
Michael grew up in Suffield Connecticut. After graduating from High School, he moved to Boston where he attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Vesper George School of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he entered the advertising business in New York City. He worked for the Sawdon & Bess agency among others handling a number of national accounts. In 1989 he moved to Charlotte where he was able to combine his experience in advertising with his love of racing by promoting NASCAR related products and events.
Michael was a man of great wit, charm, intelligence, dignity and warmth. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and loved his family. His friendships were many and long lasting. He had great spiritual strength and high personal values. He spoke ill of no one. He could find the humor and humanity in almost any situation. He could take a routine event, identify the unique elements and interpret it into a meaningful and entertaining anecdote. He valued and enjoyed the many friendships he made over the years and those who were fortunate enough to be his friend have experienced a great loss.
Michael’s greatest wish was that, in spite of the hardships and limitations he experienced in his final years, his death not be mourned but that his life be celebrated.
He is survived by his son Mike Turek of Cornelius; daughter, Jen Grenier and husband Chris of Cornelius; brother, Paul Turek and grandchildren, Connor and Dylan.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
A funeral will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, February 12 at Lake Forest Church Huntersville. Burial will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life will be held following the burial.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family. www.jamesfuneralhomeLKN.com
