Mike McKenzie's Obituary
Mike McKenzie, 73, of Yantis, TX, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023. He was born on March 22, 1949, in Meridian, MS to the late Paul and Dora McKenzie. Mike was a member of First Baptist Church of Yantis, TX. He was also a member of the Freemasons.
He was the little boy that captured your heart with his impish grin, the young boy that cared for the “broken” things he thought he could save, and the teenager that became a piano genius and when he “tinkled the ivories” everyone listened. He was the smallish teenager that played the tuba in the band – you could only see his legs! He was the young man that would sit on his momma’s lap and make her laugh like no one else. He was the young man who became a husband and father to the three people he loved the most. He was fun, frustrating, sincere, and outrageous – yet he was still a great brother that will be missed terribly.
In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Schall McKenzie; brother, Neely Davis; and his brother, Nathan Davis. He is survived by his children, Heather Oakes (Ashley) of Charlotte, NC, Heidi Parker (Matthew) of Charleston, SC, and Paul “PJ” McKenzie of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Brooke, Olivia, Adelais, Piper, Colton, Zora and Elliott “Byrdie”; brother, Ronald McKenzie (Pam) of Chester, IL, sister, Sheila “Sissy” Mora of Harrisburg, IL, sister, Anita Sweitzer (Karl) of Cobden, IL; and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family will be having a private service at a later date.
