Mike Mittelman's Obituary
On November 25th, 2014, a selfless and humble husband, Dad, “Grand Daddy” and friend to many left this world to enter his eternal home. Michael J. Mittelman, 75, of Davidson, NC was a beautiful human being and man of faith, always putting others before himself. He was born on May 18, 1939 in Atlanta, GA to the late Murray and Harriet Mittelman.
Mike graduated from Marshall University and started his career in textiles at Burlington Industries. From there he relocated to Gastonia and began his long career in banking, starting at First Citizen’s Bank and retiring from Aquesta Bank. He was a devoted member of Davidson United Methodist Church and served his church in many capacities, including teaching Sunday School and serving on the Finance Committee.
Many remember Mike for his unassuming and selfless manner in which he served his community. Mike received numerous awards and honors. One of the most prized honors was the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Community Award in 2003. Nominations for the award from the community included some of the following quotes. “He is a man who reaches out both hands in constant helpfulness to others. From the McEver baseball fields to the main streets of our town, many have felt his generosity”. “Quietly, humbly, and at personal sacrifice, he creates safe havens for people whose life circumstances have left them vulnerable. Homes have been protected, savings accounts have been created, food and shelter have been provided, and self-dignity and worth have been preserved—all thanks to our honoree.”

Mittelman, Jr. and wife Amy of Lawndale, NC; daughter, Holly Mittelman Jayne of Mooresville; sister, Ellen Morris of Charlotte; grandchildren, Thomas and Anna Grace Mittelman, Megan Ferrell, Nicole Ferrell and Ryan Jayne; and great-grandchild, Brayden Sutten.
