Mildred Barna's Obituary
Mildred (Midge) Barna went to be her Lord and Savior on September 14, 2021, 11 days shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born on September 25, 1928 in Piscataway, NJ to the late Fred and Julia Verse. She was the youngest of seven children; all preceded her in death.
Also, preceding her in death were her husband, Joseph, of nearly 35 years and her son, Gordon Barna (LuAnn).
Mildred was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, and servant of God. Her enduring commitment to her family and Christ are evident in the legacy she leaves behind. She lived her life with kindness and grace that guided her to impact so many.
Mildred began her professional career late in life as a part-time teller and finished her career as a vice president of Somerset Savings & Loan. Since moving to NC from NJ 28 years ago, she faithfully attended and served at Bethel Presbyterian Church. Wanting to serve others in her spare time, she volunteered at the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce for approximately 20 years.
Mildred leaves behind her three children; Joseph Barna (Debbie), Ken Barna (Lisa) and Nancy Hester (Carroll), 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Life Service will be at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius, NC on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church in Mildred's name or Gideons International.
Available family members will receive guests immediately after the service.
