MSgt L. Caldwell's Obituary
MSgt Jerry Leroy Caldwell, 82, of Cornelius died Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
He was born on December 30, 1931 in Cornelius, NC and was the son of the late Emmet Forrester and Kathleen Hucks Caldwell. He was a US Air Force Vietnam Veteran, a member of the Special Operations Unit, Combat Control. During his time with the Air Force, Jerry completed over 200 parachute jumps. After finishing his military career, Jerry spent the next 20 years with the US Postal Service, retiring as a Training Technician. He was a member of the Air Commando Association, Disabled American Veterans Association, the American Legion, the Williams 0176 Masonic Lodge in Cornelius, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible School Class.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Imogene “Jean” White Caldwell of Cornelius; a son, Ed Caldwell and wife Lisa of Cornelius; sister, Glenda Gale Jetton of Knoxville, TN; granddaughter, Shelby Caldwell, two nieces and three nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 3:00 PM at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in church parlor. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
