Myretta Castellani's Obituary
Myretta Elizabeth Castellani nee Kersten, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2022 at Trinity Oaks Assisted Living after a brief illness, 4 days before her 96th birthday.
Myretta was born July 11, 1926, in Stamford, Ct., to Joseph and Myretta Kersten. She joined a brother, Norman, who was born two years prior and who died in 1994.
Myretta grew up in a broken home, but nevertheless became a fine young woman who then met a fine young man in 1941, George Lewis Castellani.. The two married on Feb. 24, 1946, in Scarsdale, NY, after George’s service in World War II in both the Coast Guard and Navy.
That marriage resulted in 2 beautiful girls, Nadine Elizabeth, born in 1949 and Nanette (Neidthart) in 1954. The daughters grew up to bring to Myretta and George three grandchildren, Christine Marie (Agliata) Lang (Carl), John Michael Agliata (Carla) and Lauren Oressa Neidhart. Those grandchildren brought Myretta intense joy as she gracefully grew older, and they eventually brought another layer of happiness into her life -- her great grandchildren Jacob Alexander Agliata, who died shortly after his birth in 2000; Julia Beth Lang; Joseph Luke Agliata; Allison Marie Lang; and Jonah Rosario Agliata.
During her marriage to George, who died June 14, 2002, the couple lived in Columbus, Ohio; Houston, Texas; and Tarpon Springs, Florida, where George passed away. Myretta then relocated to North Carolina to be closer to her daughter Nadine and her husband, Jack (Agliata).
To her daughters, Myretta was the parent who was there as they grew from little girls into young ladies and then beautiful, strong women. She was the one who, with never ending determination, gave them a better foundation than she herself had on which to build their own futures.
Myretta Castellani lived life just as she wanted, in control and mostly in good health with a sharp mind. Now, as she long predicted, she’s gone on her “journey”.
The family especially wants to thank the entire staff of Trinity Oaks Assisted Living who provided Mom with loving concern and care during the 15 months she lived in Assisted Living and especially during her final weeks with them.
Memorial donations in Myretta’s memory can be made to the Alzhemer’s Respite Ministry of St Mark’s Catholic Church, Huntersville, NC.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
