Norm Hertzel's Obituary
Dr. Norman Erdwin Hertzel, of Pineville, formerly of Huntersville, age 87, retired dentist, avid hunter and fisherman, passed away on January 22, 2016 in the presence of his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara, his four daughters, Karen Pratt (Bruce), Suzanne Nelson (Paul), Linda Hartkopf (Doug) and Deb Hertzel, 7 granddaughters, 2 grandson and 2 great granddaughters.
Norman’s life journey included, 4 years of service to his country on USS Taconic, a 40 year dental practice, providing for his family, actively engaging in his community through multiple community organizations, and pursuing his many hobbies. Over the years he received many accolades and honors for his community service. The one award he was so humbled to receive was the Melvin Jones Award, a national award for outstanding humanitarism.
A memorial service will be held at Davidson United Methodist Church, Davidson, NC on Feb 27, 2 pm. His final request was to be cremated and have his ashes scattered on his favorite New York State hunting spot. The family plans to hold a celebration of his life that time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Huntersville Lions Club, PO BOX 1911, Huntersville, NC 28070 to be used for the vision van project.
