I went to school with Norm at Folsom High School and also lived in Rancho Cordova, Ca. We both worked at Joe Jimenez gas station. One nite in 1963 I came into the station at 11pm to work over nite (Friday, I believe). Norm was in the shop with his 55' or 56' Chevy on the lift. He was leaning against the back wall, tears running down his face, looking at a big hole in the oil pan. He blew a rod/piston at the drag races, and he was devastated...he spent a lot of time and money on that car. I always remembered that. I moved away and out of state...just now became aware. of his passing and was to know he never lost his love of racing. A good high school friend. Bob Dunn

Norman was such a good guy. I use to love to embarrass him by asking him to autograph one of his trading cards. He use to say I was the only one that ever asked for his autograph. I know that was not the case. When he saw me in the garage area, he would always pull out a Sharpie pen. It became a joke between us.
He never remembered my name [unless it was on my shirt] but I never expected him to know it. Norman was just one of those wonderful people that made NASCAR fun for many. I know he will be missed by many in the sport... including me!

I grew up with Norman. In 1956 when my family moved to Rancho Cordova, Ca. One of the first kids my brother and I met was Norman. I knew his Father, Mother, and brother Tom very well, and became friends with the family along with my parents. I have tried to keep up with him over the years, and even served as a fire watch in his pit at Sears Point about 20 years ago.

He was a great guy and along with his fans and friends I agree that he was a special person. I lost contact with him a few years ago but thought of him often. I will try my best to inform all his friends and school classmates of his passing. May his spirit live long and in our hearts always. Mike Spaich

Norman, what a cool guy. I was gasing the 88 car in 1999, as soon as we took the points lead he told me to get my cans and dry breaks and come over to the 28 shop, the stop watch came out. As they say: priceless great memories.

Norman was a special person. I loved listening to Norman and Harold Elliott telling stories and laughing when Norman was deliverying parts to hm elliott. I will miss seeing his smiling face.

i will greatly miss Normans smile and his true friendship.We first met when I started training Robert Yates racing.We became instant friends.He was a big brother to me.Love and miss him greatly.

I was truly saddened to hear about Norman. i lived next to Norman and Gloria in the early 80's. we played pinocle together and enjoyed each other company. i enjoyed talking racing and Nascar with him. Norman was such a fine gentleman and very kind. I will always remember him and his family.

Norman & Gloria introduced this Pennsylvania girl to NASCAR racing back in the early 80's when he was working with Bobby Allison on the Gatorade team and I have been a fan ever since. I have not seen him in years, but Norman - Gloria and Tony were "good people" and dear friends. Rest in Peace Norman...
