Patricia Comer's Obituary
Patricia “Patty” Leistner Comer, 71, of Cornelius died November 29 at her home. She
was born on November 22, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late William and Bernardine
Leistner.
Patty was raised in Gibsonia, Pa. Her family built swimming pools and lived in Miami,
FL for long periods of time . She attended public schools in Allegheny County, PA and
Dade County, FL. She graduated from High School in 1958.
She was quite successful in real estate sales in Atlanta, Ga where she was an
Associate Broker for Harry Norman Realtors. She was a frequent member of the
Million Dollar Sales Club of Atlanta.
Patty was drawn to Jesus Christ in the prime of her life and was born anew on
September 28, 1981. She had several part-time jobs, but those which she found most
rewarding were those offering her an opportunity to work within a Christ loving
environment. She held part-time administrative positions at Resurrection Lutheran
Church in Plano, Texas and Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius, NC.
She had a great fondness for art. She loved to paint using oils, acrylics, and water
colors. She once worked as a Certified Liquitex Demonstrator where she would
demonstrate the use of Liquitex art supplies within stores such as Walmart and
Michaels. She later became very interested in stamping and making cards. Most of
her cards bore the simple but glorious message of “Jesus Loves You”.
Patty possessed a passion for travel, especially to Italy. In Italy, she would spend her
time visiting art museums and absorbing the beauty of the artwork contained in many of
the churches. Her most favorite artwork was the Pieta by Michelangelo located in St.
Peterʼs Basilica.
In 1999, Patty was treated for breast cancer. In 2006, having thought the battle had
been won, she discovered that she had developed ovarian cancer. Patty fought cancer
with a great deal of courage. She underwent her chemo treatments with the same
grace and dignity which she had always displayed in living her life. She continued to
make “Jesus Loves You” cards until she had too little feeling left in her fingers.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Frederick “Fred” E. Comer, Jr.; son, Lt.
Col. Herbert Ludwig of Shaw A.F.B.; daughter, Pamela Mullis and husband James of
Columbus, MS; stepdaughter, Andrea Schoeppner of York, PA; brother, William
Leistner, Jr. of Sewickley, PA; and grandsons, James and Hunter Mullis of Columbus,
MS.

Care of Charlotte. The family is grateful to Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius
