Patricia Irene "Rene" Dodd's Obituary
Rene Dodd, an angel on Earth was called to her heavenly home on October 16, 2019, following a battle with cancer that she never had the chance to begin fighting. Rene was born in 1962 in Cary NC to James Louis Dodd Sr. and Willa Harrison Dodd. She graduated from Cary High School and UNCC. After college graduation, she remained in Charlotte and went to work at First Union National Bank in 1984. She continued to work at First Union’s successor, Wells Fargo, until her passing. Rene was a very smart woman. She began as an administrative assistant, worked in a merger-support group training people in multiple states on the First Union branch processes and procedures, and developed computer-based training for branches. Ultimately, Rene became an Application System Engineer and Assistant Vice President in Technology working on the customer information system. The things she most enjoyed about her work were the people and the problem-solving.
Never one to sit idly, some of her favorite things were the mountains, gardening and yard work, quilting, weaving, and music. She loved listening to live music and she played piano, guitar, hammered dulcimer and mountain dulcimer. One of her favorite places to spend time was the John C Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC, where she enjoyed taking classes in her favorite things as well as new ones.
Rene had a heart of gold and was loved by everyone who ever met her even briefly. A woman of God, Rene did not fear dying, but she worried about those she left behind. It was so like her to think of others. Left to cherish memories of their time with Rene are her parents, brother Jimmy Dodd (Jackie), nephew Justin Dodd, niece Paige Dodd, godson Hayden Gary, goddaughter Jessica Gary, her fur baby Buddy and so many friends we couldn’t count them if we tried.
She will never be forgotten and no one will ever be able to fill the holes left in many hearts. Rene’s last wish was to be cremated, have her ashes mixed with those of her beloved cat, Chubbs, then tossed into the wind off of one of the rock formations at Beacon Heights on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossnore School & Children’s Home, PO Box 249, Crossnore, NC 28616 or https://www.crossnore.org/donate/.
A celebration of Rene’s life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Huntersville. The service will begin at 2 p.m., and all are invited to stay afterwards for a covered-dish reception. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. Meat, drinks, and paper products will be provided.
