Patsy Hilton's Obituary
Mrs. Patsy (Pat) Horton Hilton passed away on March 2, 2017 at Olde Knox Commons in Huntersville, NC. She was born on April 22, 1929 in Charlotte to the late Frank and Hattie Davis Horton. She was a graduate of Charlotte Technical High School and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren held a special place in her heart and in her life.
“Grandmommy” played a very important part in the lives of her family as she was the part-time caregiver to all of her grandchildren. Her encouragement to each of her sons to gain higher education was also passed down to her grandchildren. She is fondly remembered for the cakes that she made especially for her grandchildren with chocolate and white icing and for allowing them to have their fill of ice cream since it was “good for them because there was milk in it”.
Pat’s love for children and being a natural caregiver led to her conducting childcare for other mothers in the area that worked outside their homes. Her services were always in high demand, particularly to teachers in her neighborhood. She also enjoyed working in grocery stores doing food preparation demonstrations for shoppers. She was a member of Hutchinson Avenue Baptist Church and later attended Cole Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Hilton was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. “Bob” Hilton of Charlotte as well as two of her grandchildren, Johanna Hilton and Justin Hilton. She was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters Lewis Horton, Jimmy Horton, Jack Horton, Evelyn Kimmons, Alice Costanich and Jo Petersen.
Surviving family members include sons C. Ed Hilton, Jr. and wife Kimrey A. Hilton of Deltona, Florida; Alan L. Hilton and wife Lisa H. Hilton of Concord, North Carolina; grandchildren Matthew A. Hilton, Jason M. Hilton (Philomena), and Meredith Hilton Williams (Robert). Surviving great-grandchildren include James Williams, Nicholas Williams, Claire Williams, Colt Hilton, Cannon Hilton and Vivian Hilton. She is also survived by her granddaughter-in-law Ashley Hilton and brother Doug Horton.
A memorial service for Mrs. Hilton will be held on Saturday, March 11th at 11:00 a.m. at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr., Huntersville, NC. The family will receive friends after the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cole Memorial United Methodist Church, 2022 West Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262.
