Peggy Hamilton's Obituary
Peggy Puckett Hamilton, 94 of Huntersville died January 1,2021. She was born on March 11, 1926 in Mecklenburg County to the late Conrad Dewey Puckett and Lorene Poole Puckett.
Peggy graduated from Long Creek High School where she met her husband Rufus Hamilton who preceded her in death in 2002. Survivors include her sons, Rusty Hamilton of Huntersville and Hoyt Hamilton (Carol) of Huntersville; daughter, Pam Hamilton (Keith Plyler) of Charlotte; siblings Conrad D. Puckett II and Earle Black; 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Peggy was a lifelong member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Huntersville in which she was very active. Over the years she played the piano for the children’s choir, helped out with the Brownie Scouts and volunteered as a cook at church camp for many years. She was also past treasurer of the Ella Houston Circle, member of the JOY (Just Older Youth) group, the Happy Knitters prayer shawl ministry and the craft bazaar group. She was awarded Honorary Life Membership in the Presbyterian Women in 2004.
Most importantly, we would like everyone to know (what Peggy made sure we all knew) …all these “works” flowed out of a heart of love for the Lord and for people. Her love and acceptance of all of us was displayed on a daily basis. She was fun and enjoyed life to the full letting it overflow to family, friends and all who came into contact with her. Peggy was an avid Duke Blue Devil basketball fan which was a matter of friendly competition with some other family members who were Tar Heel fans. Peggy loved sitting on the beach looking at the ocean, just enjoying the wind and sun. She especially loved going to Oak Island where she and Rufus spent many happy days together. Yet, when anyone came to her with a serious concern, she turned to the Lord and shared words of hope that comforted. That is a heritage we will treasure for the rest of our days.
Special thanks to Deatra Foy and Bertha Waddell for the special care they have given to Peggy in recent months.
A graveside service will be held a 3 PM Tuesday, January 5 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church with Reverend Grady Mosley and Reverend Stephen Woodworth officiating.
Memorials may be made to Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 10500 Beatties Ford Road, Huntersville, NC 28078
