Peter Mogendorf's Obituary
Peter Mogendorf, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 24, 2016. He fought a good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Peter’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, in the Chapel of The Gardens of Taylor Glen in Concord, NC, with Pastor Dean Burris and Pastor Scott Davis officiating. The family will receive friends following the Memorial Service.
Born in Germany on May 4, 1937, Peter came to the United States in April, 1961. He served in the US Army as a non-citizen and proudly received his American Citizenship on February 23, 1965. Peter graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, and started his career in the computer field in 1967, which was then the beginning of the computer age. He retired as an EDP Auditor in 2002.
Peter and his wife, Elke Mogendorf, moved from Westfield, NJ, to Huntersville, NC, in 1995, where they lived in the Wynfield Forrest neighborhood for 19 years. In the neighborhood, Peter was simply known as “The Runner.” He completed 26 marathons and 15 triathlons and was a torchbearer for the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics Torch Relay when the flame came through Charlotte.
Peter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elke Mogendorf, daughter Miriam Lafferty and husband Greg Lafferty, Jacob and Benjamin, grandchildren; daughter Karen Gorman and husband Kevin Gorman, Sydney and Jack, grandchildren; as well as other family members living in Europe.
