Phillip Lee Jackson Sr.'s Obituary
Phillip Lee Jackson, Sr. left our world at 82 years of age on the 1st of July, 2024 in Huntersville, NC. He was surrounded by loved ones when he peacefully passed after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Phil was born in Atlanta, GA on the 18th of October, 1941 and attended Grady High School, Presbyterian College, and Georgia State University. He was a proud United States Marine and a loyal employee to Principal Financial Group for over 33 years.
As a faithful servant to the Lord, he shared his passion and knowledge of the Scripture with hundreds of people, including many years as an educator at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius, NC. His time volunteering in the community involved prison ministry, literacy improvement for elementary children, horseback riding activities for physically and mentally challenged children at Wings of Eagles Ranch, and rocking newborns and comforting children at Levine Children’s Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center. He totaled well over 10,000 hours in volunteer work from the time he retired until he was no longer capable.
An athlete his entire life, Phil excelled in track and field, basketball, football, boxing, and tennis. His passion for spending time outdoors hunting and fishing was magnified by his excitement of introducing and sharing his knowledge and experience with others, both young and old.
Phil is survived by his loving wife, Carol, his sisters Lena, Areti, and Inna, and his children PJ, Jenny, Amy, Kevin, and Carole, and leaves behind 7 grandchildren.
Phil will be missed dearly by all those he influenced in so many ways through his humor, love, knowledge, passion and hard work. He fought an incredible fight for many years and his friends and family are comforted by knowing without a doubt that he rests peacefully in Heaven where he can continue to be a beacon of light to all who have known him.
