Phillip Jonas' Obituary
Phillip Glenn Jonas, 63, of Monroe, NC succumbed to a spinal cord injury on Wednesday May 8, 2024, at Hospice House of Union County. He was born on February 18, 1961, in Rutherford County to the late Glenn and Carolyn Jonas.
Phil worked for Airport Group International for over 20 years leading the fueling crew at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Phil had a love for planes and all water sports, including diving, boating, skiing, swimming, lifeguarding, jet skiing, paddle boating and fishing. He even learned to ski behind a jet boat, did flips on wake boards, slalom skied and accidently barefoot skied. Phil had a sincere love for his family and friends. He enjoyed driving the Nascar Experience and becoming part of the 160+ mph club. Phil’s friends will tell you that his wit was quick, and no one could tell a story better than him.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-nine years, Beverly Gouch Jonas. He is also survived by his son Kenny Griffith and wife Katie of Denver, NC; daughter, Ashley McClam, and husband Anthony of Monroe, NC. Phil was proud to be called “PAW PAW” by his seven grandchildren Isaiah (13), Mariah (10), Josiah (9) and Sariah (4), Jackson (9), Parker (7) and Sawyer (4). Phil is also survived by his sister Lori Bullard and niece Kailee Bullard. He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Carolyn Jonas.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, May 18 in the Fine Arts Center, located at Northside Baptist Church 333 Jeremiah Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28262. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to service. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. After the graveside service, the family invites friends back to the Fine Arts Center for a casual luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, for future spinal cord research.
