Phyllis "June" Schaber's Obituary
Phyllis “June” Schaber of Huntersville, NC died on December 14, 2015 at the age of 76. She was the beloved daughter of the late Vincent and Virginia Schulte, dearest mother of Michelle (Herb) Tinger, the late Fredrick “Vince” (Robyn) Schaber, Cheryl Gerdes, and Sheila Chittenden. She had 8 grandchildren – Troy and Carly Schaber, Dwight, Devin and Deidre Gerdes, Ian and Emma Chittenden, and Michele Hepner. She also had 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her partner of 38 years, Ken Dormady, her brother Vincent “Bud” (Jeanine) Schulte, and 6 sisters, Nancy (Ron) Meyer, Vicki (Darrel) Vator, Pamm Taylor, Christine Lohbeck, Faye (Randy) Davis, and Holly (Jim) Stetter.
June was born on September 7, 1939 and raised in Kenton County, KY.
She moved to O’Fallon, MO in 1959. There she was very active in the community. She was a room parent for all her children, a Girl Scout leader, church youth group leader, and even took a stab at politics as an alderman. She began to further her education at the age of 40 and received her bachelor’s degree 8 years later while working full time.
This led to a successful career that eventually brought her to McKesson in Huntersville in 1990 where she worked as a computer programmer. June remained there until her retirement in 2009.
June cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. She especially loved to take her family to Myrtle Beach. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking. She will be truly missed by those who knew her and loved her.
A memorial service will be held on January 7, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. in the Chapel of James Funeral Home, Huntersville, NC., followed by a reception in the funeral homes community room.
