Pieter Cornelis Swart,'s Obituary
Pieter Cornelis Swart, IV (age 5) of Davidson, NC, passed away on September 21, 2014 at his home surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with cancer. On 5/9/12, at the age of 3, Pieter was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, an aggressive pediatric cancer. He fought with dignity and strength, inspiring many along his journey.
Pieter's huge personality was magnetic. Whether it was telling a joke, his frequent costume changes, or commanding the room with his perspective; he loved to bring people together. His sweet voice was mesmerizing and his "original" comments filled our lives with laughter. He taught us so many lessons in his short life...and forever filled our hearts with love.
He was born in San Diego County, CA to Pieter C. Swart, III and Jennifer Shaw Swart on February 22, 2009. In addition to his parents, survivors include brother, Cameron Shaw Davidson; grandparents, Geraldine "Bella" Mills, Gurney "G" Mills, Pieter "Opa" Swart, Karen "Gram" Swart, Robert "Grampa" Shaw, Carolyn "Nana" Shaw, Joyce "JoJo" Graham; great- grandmother, Tine "Oma" Swart-Spires; and an expansive community of loving family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Pieter's Pals at DCPC Preschool, P.O. Box 337, Davidson, NC 28036 to later be distributed to organizations helping kids & their families battling cancer and groups committed to finding a cure for childhood cancers.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at Davidson College Presbyterian Church at 2:22 PM on Saturday, October 18, 2014.
