Pietra Gambino's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Pietra Gambino, 76, of Huntersville, NC announces her passing on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House. She was born on January 16, 1941 in Palermo, Sicily, to the late Joseph and Rosaria Macchiarella.
Pietra will forever be lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years, Luigi; her sons, John (wife Tammy), Joseph (wife Erica) and Louis (wife Eunice); her siblings, Anna, Isadore, John, Rosa and Sylvia; as well as her 9 grandchildren, John, Christian, Luke, Louie, Sophie, George, Olivia, Joey and Stella. She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry.
Pietra always cared for her family with the utmost devotion, from the time she immigrated to the United States in 1956 with her mother and siblings; to the time she met her future husband, Luigi, in a sewing factory in New York; to when she raised their three sons on Long Island; and to when they shared their joyous love for their grandchildren. She was graceful and special in all that she did, including as an extraordinary seamstress, gardener, cook, homemaker and, most of all, as a daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. She thoughtfully put the needs of all that she loved before her own. For these reasons and many more, which no words can justly express, she is revered by her family like no other.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 11 at James Funeral Home located at 10520 Arahova Drive in Huntersville from 1-3 PM and 5-7 PM. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 12 at 11 AM at St. Mark Catholic Church, located at 14740 Stumptown Road in Huntersville. Entombment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, located at 5716 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in the name of Pietra may be sent to Levine & Dickson Hospice House at 11900 Vanstory Dr., Huntersville, NC 28078.
The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers who tenderly cared for Pietra during her illness as if she was their own mother, including Delia, Jaime and DeLane.
